Seriously Geeky Sundays – Adorn

Welcome back, sweet dear readers, to Seriously Geeky Sundays, brought to you by the internet’s greatest warrior,Heather of Just Geeking By. She works away in the wordsmiths every day, forging great questions for us bloggers to answer (and add pictures and YouTube links to also). Thank you Heather for your work!

If you remember last month, we did a piece around the word “embellish”? Well consider this the follow-up, the sequel! For today we have a new word, Adorn!

Question 1 – If you could steal any character’s wardrobe which would it be?

One of my favourite video games is 2002’s Mafia, recently remade for the last generation (yep ,somehow the PS4 is last gen now) of consoles. I always loved the fashion sense in those games, sharp suits, waistcoats and big overcoats you can hide a Chicago Typewriter under, fancy hats… yeah, imagine if everyone wearing suits every day came back into style, it would look so cool!

Whatcha gonna do ‘boudit?

But also, to be fair, be a massive pain in the neck! Imagine all that ironing! So yeah, I’ll admire Tommy Angelo’s wardrobe from afar!

Question 2 – What superhero’s costume do you love and which do you hate?

I always reckoned Iron Man had the best costume in the world of superheroes. Not only does it look incredibly cool (power armour in gold and hot-rod red, come on!) but it’s jam packed with weaponry and gadgets. Rockets, lasers, jet boots, a cool AI with the voice of Paul Bettany, the Iron Man armour has it all in one stylish package. There are also a million versions of it, which is a cool bonus!

Lamest superhero costume is a very specific one: Captain America’s in 2012’s Avengers. His getup in The First Avenger was very cool, mixing the colourful, super American design of his famous getup with a tactical, realistic look. Once Cap gets to Avengers, however, he has to wear what looks like a cheap copy of it, which he bought off Wish or something!

Wish? Bet he understood that reference!

I get that Phil Coulson made it for him, but come on, let him down gently or something.

Question 3 – You’re riding into battle; who’s armour do you choose?

Though heis officially one of cinema’s greatest shithouses, I must admit that Count Adamar from A Knight’s Tale has some fantastic armour. All black, sinister as hell and rocket a very sensible gorget, it would be the go-to choice for medieval, horse-based combat.

And seriously, Adamar is a total shithouse, Rufus Sewell deserved a special Oscar for breathing life into such a nasty character!

You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting. Unlike your armour, which is boss.

Question 4 – Who wore it better; pick an outfit that’s been worn by multiple characters and tell us who wore it best.

Tough one! I always quite liked how the squad members of Valkyria Chronicles 4 all looked very different, despite being soldiers in the same uniform. Using a bit of, yes, adornment, the character designers have really pulled off a miracle, making something as uniform as soldiers all look unique.

Standout character among this lot would be Kai, who looks amazing in that camouflage cape! Raz, whilst a fiery pain in the ass, looks awesome too!

Question 5 – From utility belts to magical backpacks, accessories in fandom can be anything and do anything. Which one would you choose to borrow for a day?

Doctor Strange’s cape!

I mean, how cool is that thing? If I had a coat that could fly, was sentient and happily saved my life and attacked baddies of its own accord, I’d be very happy indeed!

It’s red, velvety and will kick your ass if you mess with its wearer!

Question 6 – You’ve been given the chance to redesign a character’s appearance? Who is it, why and what would you change?

One beloved video game character that everyone adores is Final Fantasy VII‘s big bad/master of mummy issues Sephiroth. A super soldier infused with the cells of apocalyptic space horror Jenova, he’s pretty cool in an angsty kind of way.

But I never rated his look! Black leather coat, leather straps, weird shoulder pads, long silver hair… they need to stop letting these super soldiers dressing themselves!

Sephiroth is supposed to be member of the elite SOLDIER unit, I’d prefer to see him in a variant of that uniform, adorned with various little personal effects to make him stand out, as opposed to someone who raided the wardrobe of The Crow in the dark!

Also, why do people always notice Cloud was formerly SOLDIER from his eyes? Dude is literally still wearing the uniform all the way through the game!

Anyway, that’s all for this week! It’s been my birthday at the time of writing this (I’m getting old!) but of course one must always make time for Seriously Geeky Sundays!

As always, please check out the other writers who take part in this program and I’ll see you all next time!

  1. Steel the Super hero played by Shaq had a pretty bad costume…

A character whose outfit I’d want to have is Princess Peach.. well as well as some anime characters! I don’t really see those in Seriously Geeky Sundays though 😮

      2. Well Toads are Mushrooms so they should by all means reproduce by spores I think? That might make it even more creepy xD

It’s 1000 xD Well at least per week! Stii it is a neat little achievement! Not sure if it is all that much but it is the first time I got it as a weekly number 😛

      3. Toad is rather creepy! There is a reason so many of them have been transformed into blocks in the first game… Mario Killed a lot of them and he is still revered as a hero.. soooooo toads must be evil.
