Would You Ever -Gaming Edition

Video games – some play together, some play alone. Some like the latest titles, others the classics. PC vs consoles, Sega vs Nintendo, there’s a lot to take in! My first video gaming experience was with Sonic the Hedgehog on the Master System II in 1992, which was a cool birthday present, let me tell you!

Aww, the pause button is on the console itself!

Anyway, I was tagged into this challenge by the ever bloggerific (it’s a real word!) Heather of Just Geeking By and I’m looking forward to sharing my answers with you! It’s also worth a mention that this excellent tag is the brainchild of A Geek Girl’s Guide.

Have You Ever Rage Quit a Game?

A good few times over my 28 years of mashing control pads for sure! Most recently I have to admit to rage quitting Dark Souls 3. I can hear you all now, “oooh git gud!” and all of that malarkey, but hear me out will you! Truth be told, I have tried several times over the years to get into these games, they come very highly recommended and the level design is very clever, what with all of the unlocking shortcuts etc. But the greyness of the world, fighting the same enemies over and over again and the bloody unpleasant boss fights all add up to put me off it and, yes, rage quit like an enraged toddler!

Though, in my defense, I never quit an online shooter when I was losing!

Have You Ever Earned All Achievements in a Game?

Nope! I came close with Assassin’s Creed 2 once upon a time, but I’m usually the kind of person to complete the story and that’s that (although if I enjoyed the experience, I do go back and do it all again). I respect anyone who has the time and tenacity to hang in there and get that mystical 100%, but I’m just not that committed to the grind!

Have You Ever Pulled an All Nighter Gaming?

Only once!

In 2016 (I think) my wife had her gall bladder out and had the bed to herself as I opted to sleep on the sofa downstairs. Well, I’d booked the week off to help out around the house and care for her and, would you believe it, it was the very same week that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided came out. I loved the previous title, Human Revolution, not to mention the original, so you bet I stayed up all night, stealthing about as Adam Jensen whilst trying to stay quiet. It was pretty awesome, though I was exhausted by the time I actually got some sleep. Come back to me, youth!

Have You Ever Livestreamed Your Gaming

Nah, I’m very much about just relaxing and enjoying a game for myself. I see gaming as a form of escapism, so having people watch me play would probably put me off and distract me from the point. That said, fair play to anyone who can make a living of livestreaming, it’s as much about personality as it is skill and I doubt I have either!

Have You Ever Pre-Ordered a Game?

Only two! These were Forza Motorsport 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the Xbox 360. With the way the industry is these days, I am now mostly a sit back and see kind of person when it comes to games, so many ship needing fixing and improve over time that you’re often better off waiting.

Oh, I just remembered that I also pre-ordered Resident Evil 3 remake for the PS4 when that came out, because I loved the RE2 remake and figured Capcom’s recent form would keep up (I was right, by the way!).

Got a Console For the Games Specifically

Only once, and that was a PS3 to keep my 360 company. I purchased it with a tax rebate on a whim, because I really wanted to play the Killzone sequels and the newer Gran Turismo titles. They were alright, I suppose…

In the end it was a £5.99 used copy of Valkyria Chronicles that made owning the PS3 worth it, though as I now have it on the PS4, I no longer have the PS3, awful bloody thing with it’s stupid updates and naff controller…

Pfffft…

Over to You

Well, there we go, a short and sweet journey into what kind of gamer I am: a single player, story whore of a gamer who hates modern industry practices! I used to be a PC gamer too, but that’s an expensive pastime and, I dunno, you just can’t beat the modular chunkiness of an old console, can you?

Give this tag a try, it’s great fun and you might just learn something about yourself along the way!

Tagging

Sounds like most of you have been tagged already, I’ll pull some names from a hat and see how I get on: Pinkie’s Paradise, Ms Luna and Pix, wonder if you lot have done this yet?

    1. Nice! I got my Dreamcast for my 28th birthday from the wife, it’s a bit yellow around the gills but works like a dream! The Mega Drive was a staple of my childhood from around 10 to 15, I still play it to this day, the exact same console 25 years on!

      1. That’s awesome. That’s cool how it still works. What are your favorite Dreamcast games? Yeah, Mega Drive (or Genesis in America) was such a fun system with lots of fun games.
